Rise of Kingdoms has a lot of depth — here’s how to get started the right way and avoid common beginner mistakes:

Step 1 — Download and Launch

Click the button below to get started. Rise of Kingdoms is free to play on PC — download BlueStacks (the official recommended emulator) or use the dedicated PC client if available in your region. Installation takes about 5 minutes.

Step 2 — Choose Your Civilization

You’ll be asked to select one of 13 civilizations. For beginners, China (extra building speed), Rome (strong infantry) or France (healing-focused) are excellent starting choices. Don’t stress too much — you can change civilization later in the game.

Step 3 — Complete the Tutorial and Early Quests

Follow the main quest line closely in the early game. It guides you through building construction, troop training, technology research, and your first battles. Completing quests gives generous resource rewards that accelerate your early growth significantly.

Step 4 — Join an Active Alliance Early

This is the most important tip for new players: join an alliance as soon as possible. Alliance members can help speed up your builds, protect your city, share resources, and provide experienced guidance. A good alliance is the difference between thriving and struggling in RoK.

Step 5 — Focus on One Commander First

Don’t spread your Commander experience across many heroes — pick one primary commander and max their skills before moving to another. Aethelflaed and Boudica are excellent free-to-play choices that remain useful throughout the game.

Step 6 — Participate in Events

Rise of Kingdoms runs frequent limited-time events offering gems, commander sculptures, and exclusive items. Check the events tab daily and prioritize events that reward the resources you currently need most. Kingdom vs Kingdom events are the pinnacle of RoK gameplay — work with your alliance to prepare for them.
